Village and Community Updates

VEHICLE STICKER renewals are due May 1. You should receive a renewal notice with the PIN necessary to renew online. Renewals are also accepted via mail or in person at Village Hall.

SEMI-ANNUAL COLLECTIONS. If your trash pickup day is Monday, you can place multiple bulky items at the curb for pickup on Wednesday, May 4. For those with Tuesday trash collections, mark your calendar for Wednesday, May 11.

HELP WANTED. The Village is hiring a full-time maintenance worker, seasonal maintenance workers, and a graduate intern with interest in urban planning. Click here for more information.

SHHHHHH. Landscape work like leaf blowing and lawn mowing may not start before 8 a.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. on weekends and holidays. If you hear a violation, call the Police Department's non-emergency line at (847) 234-8760.

ARBOR DAY NOT FAR AWAY. The Lake Bluff Open Lands Association will be planting saplings at the Skokie River Prairie Land and Water Reserve tomorrow, Saturday, April 16, 9 a.m. to noon. LBOLA will also clean up Ravine Park next Saturday, April 23.

SHOP LOCAL. Lake Forest College is hosting a student-led pop-up shop at Gorton Community Center next Saturday, April 23. Click for more details.

SEED BETWEEN THE LINES. The Library's seed library offers free native and pollinator species for your spring planting.

Board and Committee Actions

Recent Village Board Meeting (April 11, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:
  • Recognized¬†Arbor Day and Fair Housing Month.
  • Received an update from the Committee Representing Our Young Adults (CROYA).
  • Approved:
    • Outdoor dining on public property in the Central Business District for summer 2022. Outdoor dining will move to the parallel parking spots on the north side of Block One in order to simulate the approved concept plan for Block One.
    • A three-year contract with Clarke to provide mosquito control services.
    • Construction contracts for capital improvements in the upcoming fiscal year.
    • Bulk variations for the remodel of the single-family residence at 562 Sunrise Avenue.?
    • Reappointments of Village officials for the upcoming fiscal year.
    • A revised pay plan and handbook for Village employees for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Gave first reading approval to:
    • A 50% reduction in zoning fees for accessory dwelling units.
    • Authorizing the disposal of desk phones as surplus property.
The Historic Preservation Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 13 was cancelled.

Upcoming Sustainability and Community Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee Meeting (Tuesday, April 19, 7 p.m.).
The SEC will discuss: Upcoming PCZBA-ABR Joint Workshop (Wednesday, April 20, 7 p.m.). The Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals and the Architectural Board of Review will hold a joint workshop to review concept plans for the North Shore Water Reclamation District (NSWRD) facilities at Sunrise Park and Beach. The PCZBA's regular business will be conducted the following Thursday, April 28 at 7 p.m.
