Village and Community Updates

VEHICLE STICKER renewals are due May 1. You should receive a renewal notice with the PIN necessary to renew online. Renewals are also accepted via mail or in person at Village Hall.

HELP WANTED. The Village is hiring a full-time maintenance worker, seasonal maintenance workers, and a graduate intern. Click here for more information.

ROOTING FOR YOU. You can receive two free saplings from ComEd and the Arbor Day Foundation. Reservations are first come, first served.

GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS. The Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund is offering up to $30,000 in assistance to eligible homeowners who are past-due on mortgages, property tax payments, and other costs of home ownership.

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS. North Chicago Community Partners is seeking volunteers for their after school enrichment program serving K-5 students. Click here to learn more and sign up.

Board and Committee Actions

Recent Committee of the Whole Meeting (March 28, 6 p.m.).The COW indicated preliminary support for moving outdoor dining to the parallel parking spots on the north side of Block One of the Central Business District.

Recent Village Board Meeting (March 28, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:
  • Adopted¬†the Village's next biennial budget (May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2024).
  • Comprehensively amended the Village's historic preservation regulations.
  • Terminated the development agreement for the Stonebridge development, consistent with the settlement agreement approved in November.
  • Approved a special use permit for a membership indoor sports facility at 921 Sherwood Drive.
  • Approved a contract with AT&T for internet service.
  • Gave first reading approval to:
    • Bulk variations for the remodel of the single-family residence at 562 Sunrise Avenue.?
    • Authorizing the disposal of desk phones as surplus property.
The Business Advisory Ad Hoc Committee Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 30 was cancelled.

Upcoming Architectural Board of Review Meeting (Tuesday, April 5, 7 p.m.). The ABR will:
  • Conduct a preliminary review of a proposed expansion of the Scranton Alley at 28 E. Center Avenue.
  • Discuss¬†updates to the Village's adopted building codes.
  • Discuss membership qualifications for the ABR.
