Village Community Updates

NSWRD Construction Update. Northshore Water Reclamation Department (NSWRD) will begin construction at Sunrise Beach tomorrow morning, September 30 at 7 am. This is part of an ongoing effort to build a subterranean overflow basin so that they can maintain their existing infrastructure and prevent sewage from overflowing into Lake Michigan. We apologize for any inconvience this may cause. Semi-Annual Collection Starts Next Week. Lake Bluff's semi-annual collection is here again. The Village provides residents an opportunity to dispose of large items not picked up as part of the normal refuse collection service on a semi-annual basis including: mattresses, furniture, barbecue grills (without propane tank), among others. Residents are reminded that on the designated collection day, all items are required to be placed at the curb no earlier than 4 pm. the day prior to the collection. Gear Up! On October 1 from 11 am to 3 pm, join the LFLB Chamber of Commerce for the 4th annual "Then & Now" Auto Show which showcases 120 years of vehicle excellence. This popular family-friendly event not ony includes the auto showcase but also entertainment by the Flat Cats band, terrific onsite raffles, and an expanded "Food Station." Admission is free. Get to Know the PTO. The Lake Bluff Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) fosters a strong connection between parents, teachers, and the school administration in District 65 schools. The PTO aims to enhance the educational and social/emotional experience of our students and create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all. For ways to get involved, click here

 

Safety First! The Village’s Public Safety Day Open House is on October 14, 2023 from 11 am to 2 pm at the Public Safety Building (45 E. Center Avenue). Come out and see a showcase of vehicles from the Fire, Police, and Public Works Departments as well as various emergency demonstrations.

 

Banned Books Week. Starting October 1, the Lake Bluff Public Library recognizes Banned Books Week to honor and celebrate the freedom to read. This initiative also spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools. CROYA News. CROYA’s youth meetings and programs for the 2023-2024 school year have begun! Youth meetings are: Middle School on Tuesdays at 4 pm, High School on Wednesdays at 7 pm, and Middle School Cooking Club on Thursdays at 4 pm. The CROYA Van picks up students after school at both Lake Bluff Middle School and Lake Forest High School. There is also still time to join Croya's Peer Training at LFHS! Click here for the driving waiver form and click here for more CROYA information.

Comprehensive Plan Update Underway

The Lake Bluff Comprehensive Plan update has started and there are plenty of opportunities to make your voice heard regarding the Village’s future! The best way to stay in the loop is to subscribe to the plan website; this will keep you posted on all project news and events as they are announced. While you’re there, make sure to share your ideas to the comment map (and come back whenever inspiration strikes) and, if you haven’t yet, take the five-minute survey to let us know your priorities for Lake Bluff’s future.

Board and Committee Actions

Recent Finance Committee Meeting and Police Pension Fund Board (September 27). The Members:

  • Discussed the fund's health and strategies to grow the fund with consulting actuary. 

 

Recent Village Board (VB) Meeting (September 27). The Village Board: 

  • Approved a financial commitment and application to the Safe Routes to Schools grant program. 
  • Discussed and continued a license agreement for the Lake Bluff Yacht Club at Sunrise Beach. 
  • Approved a construction contract for the Village of Lake Bluff's FY2024 Pavement Maintence Program.
  • Approved on first reading ordinances granting a text amendment, RIO development plan approval, and a special use permit related to child daycare services and a music school at Lake Bluff Grace United Methodist Church (244 East Center Avenue).
  • Tabled the request for a license agreement (665 Moffett).

 

The Upcoming Architectural Board of Review (ABR) Meeting (Tuesday, October 3, 2023, 7 p.m.). The ABR will review building alterations for the following: 

  • Proposed English Pub at 101-113 E. Scranton Avenue.
  • Knauz Motors at 409 N Skokie Highway.
