‚ÄćVillage Community Updates

Electric Scooters. A few reminders for parents to share with their children... To avoid collisions with pedestrians, please walk scooters and bikes while downtown. Do not use electronic devices, including ear buds, headphones, or phones, while operating your scooter. Watch out for hazards at intersections and crosswalks, including vehicles and wet or uneven terrain.


Brewery Downtown Block Party. The next Brewery Block Party will take place downtown this Saturday, July 15 starting at 5 pm.


Bluffinia. The Park District's Bluffinia concert featuring Mackenzie O' Brien starts at 6 pm on the Village Green this Sunday, July 16. 


Bike Race and Family Fun Ride. The Northwestern Medicine Lake Bluff Criterium Bike Race is almost here again! Lake Forest Bank & Trust is sponsoring this year's Family Fun Ride on July 29 starting at 6 pm on Oak Ave. Click here for more information.


Keep Pets Safe. There are 13 bat species commonly found in Illinois and their activity picks up in the summer. Bats are beneficial for pest control and pollination; however, bats can carry diseases including rabies so contact should be avoided. Residents should ensure that pets are current on required rabies vaccines and contact Lake County Animal Care & Control if exposures occur. Click here for more information.


Slow it Down. This summer the Lake Bluff Police Department is joining with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Illinois State Police to remind motorists to stop speeding and help everyone reach their destinations safely. Drivers can expect a ticket if they are spotted speeding. Stepped-up patrols will be seen July 6-31. 


CROYA News. CROYA is open each day for youth to drop-in from 1-3 pm. Click here for the printable Summer Calendar of Events. CROYA’s next Summer Youth Meeting is July 26 and High School Work Stay Service Days are July 27 and July 28.


Criterium Bike Race Volunteers Needed. A Volunteer Coordinator is needed for the bike race- more information can be found here. Also needed is Host Housing- more information can be found here.


Library News. There is still time to sign up for Summer Reading Club and to get seeds from the Library's Seed Library. While you're at it, check out the Library's Learning Garden and download ebooks to your device for your summer travels.

Recent Village Board Committee-of-the-Whole (COW) meeting (July 10, 6 p.m.). The COW:

  • Continued discussing an LGBTQ+ Pride Flag request and draft flag policy.


Recent Village Board meeting (July 10, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:

  • Approved variances for height, floor area, and setbacks related to the addition of a second story on an existing detached garage (618 Maple Avenue, a locally landmarked home).
  • Authorized a professional services agreement with Davey Resource Group, Inc. for tree inventory and urban forest management plan services.
  • Approved an update to the 2005 Affordable Housing Plan.


Recent Plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals (PCZBA) special meeting (July 13, 7 p.m.). The PCZBA:

  • Heard a Comprehensive Land Use Plan kick-off presentation from the Village's consultants.


Upcoming Plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals (PCZBA) meeting

(Wednesday, July 19, 2023, 7 p.m.). The PCZBA will consider:

  • Daylight plane and side setback variance needed to construct a second floor addition at¬†500 East North Avenue, a Lake Bluff locally landmarked property.

The Sustainability & Community Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee (SEC) meeting scheduled for July 18 is cancelled.
