Village and Community Updates

  • Ribfest is back on the Village Green all day tomorrow.

  • Grace UMC's Silver and Gold concert, which was rescheduled from the Village Green this summer due to weather, will be held next Sunday, October 9 indoors at Grace UMC. 

SEMI-ANNUAL COLLECTIONS are here. If your waste is collected on Mondays, you can put large debris at the curb this Wednesday, October 5 for collection. If your waste is collected on Tuesdays, you can place large debris at the curb the following Wednesday, October 12.

 

LIGHTS OUT. Birds are migrating through our area. Artificial lighting at night can disrupt how birds navigate safely. Try to minimize home, patio, and landscape lighting until next Friday.

  

MARKET RESEARCH. Next week is the last week of the Lake Bluff Farmers Market! The Market wants your feedback for next season; it only takes a few minutes.


JOHNNY APPLESEED. The Village and local residents are partnering to plant fifty new trees this fall in the Village's parkway. Have a great spot in mind? Come visit their table across the street from the Farmers Market, or write to Sue Raymoure with your idea at sueraymoure@att.net

 

WANT TO GET PAID TO PLAY? NSSRA is hiring program assistants to work with individuals with disabilities in recreation programs.

Board and Committee Actions

Recent Finance Committee Meeting (September 26, 6 p.m.). The Finance Committee discussed additional financial incentives for historic landmark properties in the Village.

 

Recent Village Board Meeting (September 26, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:

  • Received reports regarding:
    • The activities of the Lake Bluff Open Lands Association (LBOLA).
    • Retaining legal counsel to seek damages from the manufacturers of PCBs (environmentally harmful chemicals).
  • Approved:
  • Gave first reading approval to:
    • Changes that would grandfather more existing parking situations in the Central Business District and require more new downtown businesses to have their employees park at the Lake Bluff Train Station parking lot.
    • Zoning relief necessary for Hansa Coffee to relocate to 24 East Scranton Avenue (formerly occupied by Be Market). 

The September 28 Business Advisory Ad Hoc Committee Meeting was cancelled.


Upcoming Architectural Board of Review Meeting (Tuesday, October 4, 7 p.m.The ABR will conduct site plan reviews for Shoreacres Golf Course (1601 Shore Acres Drive) and the Public Safety Building (45 E. Center Ave.).
