Village and Community Updates

THIS WEEKEND, you can hang out at the Brewery's downtown Block Party starting tomorrow (Saturday) at 5 p.m. Grace United Methodist Church presents their "Silver and Gold" concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, where the ICA Brass Quintet returns with favorites from the Silver Screen and Golden Lights of Broadway.

 

BACK TO SCHOOL! Lake Forest and Lake Bluff schools are back in session. Remember to drive carefully and watch for pedestrians. CROYA activities started again for Lake Bluff youth; click for more information about high school and middle school programs.

 

USING AN E-SCOOTER AROUND TOWN? E-scooters can be dangerous if operated carelessly. Remember to: wear a helmet; test how to make an emergency stop; alert others of your presence when passing by; and only have one rider on an e-scooter at a time. 

 

CART REFRESH WRAPPING UP. If you don't have the right landfill and recycling cart, call Groot at (877) 404-7668. This replacement is part of the Village's updated residential waste, recycling, and composting program.

 

HELP WANTED. Local schools are looking for teacher's assistants. Yesterday, the State of Illinois announced changes allowing anyone holding a high school diploma or GED to work in this capacity. Recent Finance Committee Meeting (August 22, 6 p.m.). The Finance Committee recommended the Village Board, following community engagement and further review of the proposed credit program, establish a stormwater utility to fund new stormwater infrastructure.

 

Recent Village Board Meeting (August 22, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:

  • Honored the 23 years of service of retiring Police Officer Merritt Price.
  • Proclaimed September 19-25 as National Rail Safety Week.
  • Received an informational report regarding Lake Bluff-specific results from the Chicago Regional Tree Initiative's 2020 Tree Census.
  • Approved a contract to prune and maintain all Village parkway trees over the next four years.
  • Designated 500 E. North Ave. as a historic landmark and granted variations to allow for the modification of the building's second floor.
  • Residential variations for¬†a pergola at 305 E. Scranton Ave.
  • Granted a fireworks permit to the Lake Bluff Park District for the 2022 Lake Bluff Birthday Bash scheduled for Saturday, September 24.

 

The Business Advisory Ad Hoc Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m. was cancelled.

 

Upcoming Village Board & Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Special Meeting (Monday, August 29, 6 p.m.). The Village Board and PCZBA will continue discussing proposed changes to the Village's planned residential development regulations. 


Upcoming Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Special Meeting (Monday, August 29, 7 p.m.). The PCZBA will review NSWRD's RIO Development Plan proposal to construct a one million gallon subterranean overflow basin at the Lake Bluff Beach.
