Village and Community Updates

BACK TO SCHOOL! Lake Forest High School started this week, and Lake Bluff schools resume next week. Remember to drive carefully and watch for pedestrians. CROYA activities start again for Lake Bluff youth; click for more information about high school and middle school programs.

 

CART REFRESH WRAPPING UP. If you don't have the right landfill and recycling cart, call Groot at (877) 404-7668. This replacement is part of the Village's updated residential waste, recycling, and composting program.

 

HELP WANTED. Local schools are looking for teacher's assistants. Yesterday, the State of Illinois announced changes allowing anyone holding a high school diploma or GED to work in this capacity. DAY ON THE FARM. Once a year, local art and history enthusiasts have a chance to tour Crab Tree Farm's historic grounds and exclusive collection of American Arts and Crafts furnishings. This year's tours will be held Saturday, September 17 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased from the Lake Bluff History Museum.

  

CABLE GUY. Lake Bluff's public access television channel (Comcast Channel 19) will be unavailable except during scheduled meetings due to pending equipment upgrades.

Recent Sustainability and Community Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee (August 15, 7 p.m.). The SEC discussed the Library's outdoor learning garden and the July 23, 2022 major storm event.

 

The Village Board & Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Special Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 17 at 6 p.m. has been rescheduled for Monday, August 29 at 6 p.m. The Village Board and PCZBA will continue discussing proposed changes to the Village's planned residential development regulations. 


The Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 17 at 7 p.m. has been rescheduled for Monday, August 29 at 7 p.m. The PCZBA will review NSWRD's RIO Development Plan proposal to construct a one million gallon overflow basin at Sunrise Park and Beach.

 

Upcoming Finance Committee Meeting (Monday, August 22, 6 p.m.). The Finance Committee will continue to discuss alternative revenue sources to fund stormwater infrastructure.

 

Upcoming Village Board Meeting (Monday, August 22, 7 p.m.). The Village Board will consider:

  • Honoring the service of retiring Police Officer Merritt Price.
  • Proclaiming September 19-25 as National Rail Safety Week.
  • An informational report regarding Lake Bluff-specific results from the Chicago Regional Tree Initiative's 2020 Tree Census.
  • Approving a contract to prune and maintain all Village parkway trees over the next four years.
  • Designating 500 E. North Ave. as a historic landmark and granting variations to allow for the modification of the building's second floor.
  • Residential variations for a pergola at 305 E. Scranton Ave.
  • Granting a fireworks permit to the Lake Bluff Park District for the 2022 Lake Bluff Birthday Bash scheduled for Saturday, September 24.

 

The Business Advisory Ad Hoc Committee meeting scheduled for Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m. has been cancelled.
