Village and Community Updates

YOUR SUMMER FUN DESTINATIONS this weekend include:

TOUR DE BLUFF: This year's Lake Bluff Criterium is bigger than ever! The Lake Bluff leg of the Intelligensia Cup is part of the national American Criterium Cup and will be professionally broadcast on Outside TV. For more information, visit lakebluffcriterium.com

  • Families can ride the course together, just like the pros! Sign-ups for the family fun ride are open in-person at Lake Forest Bank & Trust, 4 E. Scranton Ave.

JUST TWO WEEKS LEFT. The new Elmer Vliet Community Service Award honors those who exemplify the spirit of "community above self." Make a nomination by August 1, 2022.

TRAGEDY IN HIGHLAND PARK. The City of Highland Park has published a list of upcoming memorial services and mental health resources at hpstrong.info. If you are considering a financial donation, the Highland Park Community Foundation has established a Shooting Response Fund.

Board and Committee Actions

Recent Village Board Meeting (Monday, July 11, 7 p.m.). The Village Board:

  • Honored the public service of Deputy Fire Chief Steve Willard (45 years of service) and Village Forester Bob Hertel (retiring after 25 years of service).
  • Received an update on capital improvements.
  • Approved the replacement of two police vehicles.
  • Amended the Village Administrator's employment agreement.
  • Gave first reading approval to:
    • Designating 500 E. North Ave. as a historic landmark and granting variations to allow for the modification of the building's second floor.
    • Residential variations for a pergola at 305 E. Scranton Ave.

The Architectural Board of Review meeting rescheduled for Tuesday, July 12 was cancelled.

 

The Historic Preservation Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday, July 13 was cancelled.

 

The Sustainability and Community Enhancement Ad Hoc Committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 19 is cancelled.

 

Upcoming Village Board & Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Special Meeting (Wednesday, July 20, 7 p.m.). The Village Board and PCZBA will continue discussing proposed changes to the Village's planned residential development regulations. 

 

The Police Pension Board Meeting scheduled for Thursday, July 21 has been rescheduled to Tuesday, July 26.
