Volunteer Recognition

Elmer Vliet Award

In the spirit of “community above self” which Elmer Vliet embodied, the Elmer Vliet Community Service Award recognizes individuals and organizations that have had a significant, positive impact on the Lake Bluff community and who take personal pride in public service involvement.

Elmer Vliet Award Recipients:

Christian Erzinger (2022)	Christian Erzinger is one of the pioneers of the Lake Bluff Rib Fest, a former member of the Village Plan Commission, a Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Lions Club leader, and a member of the Lake Bluff Lawn Mower Precision Drill Team.
Deb Fischer (2022)	Deb Fischer is a Lake Bluff native who has led the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce; served on the Lake Bluff Farmers Market Committee, Residential Building Ad Hoc Committee, and 125 Committee. Deb currently sits on the Lake Bluff Joint Plan Commission & Zoning Board of Appeals and Business Ad Hoc Advisory Committee.
Josh Fox (2022)	Josh Fox has jumped in with both feet and is helping the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff Newcomer’s Club, the Lake Bluff 4th of July Parade Committee, and has even started an annual neighborhood youth running race.
Bill Reidy (2024)	Bill Reidy makes his mark by keeping the greater Lake Bluff and Lake Forest community advised of important matters through his regular social media posts. With fewer local newspapers, Bill’s hyperlocal reporting with over 2,000 members helps keep locals in the know regarding threatening weather, public safety activities, and much more.
Lee Sachnoff (2024)	Lee Sachnoff is being posthumously recognized for being a builder of community; while he was known for his elaborate garden railroad display in his yard on Mountain Avenue which he would “load” the cars with seasonal items such as mini pumpkins, Easter eggs, lights, candles, or holiday ornaments and for his charming Little Free Library that stands in front of his home and beckons with its lit interior and beveled glass door, Lee was also an advocate of elevating Lake Bluff quality of life by pushing Village leaders to adopt restrictions on gas-powered leaf blowers.
Dave Szaflarski (2024)	For the past twenty-five years, Dave Szaflarski has been the volunteer site steward for the Oriole Grove Forest Preserve where he has led and educated students, adults and many others in the value of protecting and improving the biodiversity of this precious resource by building trails, eradicating invasive species and removing rubbish throughout the 80-acre site.
