How does LPR technology work?
LPR systems capture license plate images, read the image and then use the data to compare the plate number against other databases to alert an officer when the system has captured a vehicle of interest.
An “alert” occurs when a vehicle’s license plate number has been included on a list of vehicles of interest. An officer must validate that the system has accurately identified the license plate and that the license plate was issued by the same state as the wanted plate.
What crimes are LPRs used to investigate?
LPRs are typically used to investigate violent crimes, stolen vehicles, and missing or endangered persons.
What will LPR data not be used for?
Data from fixed camera LPR locations will not be used for civil immigration, traffic enforcement, red light violations, or personal use.
How do the cameras keep data secure?
LPR footage is automatically deleted after the storing period of 14 days.
What features do Flock Safety devices have that enable audits and oversight?
Law enforcement agencies must verify the legitimacy of the search and create an audit trail when using the Flock Safety platform.
The Lake Bluff Police Department does not use the data collected to work with other third-party companies. Flock Safety does not capture any personal identifiable details or information.
