The State of Illinois requires the placement of a smoke detector within 15 feet of any sleeping area and on every level of a residential building and single family home. The Lake Bluff Fire Department suggests, in addition to the State requirements, smoke detectors be installed in every bedroom of the home. As a convenience to Lake Bluff homeowners, the Fire Department offers a smoke detector installation service at no cost to the homeowner.
Remember to:
- Never remove your smoke detector battery for use in another appliance, toy, etc.;
- Test the smoke detector batteries on a monthly basis; and
- Change the batteries when Daylight Saving Time ends in the fall.
