Village and Community Updates
STONEBRIDGE. After almost two years of litigation, The Village and the developer of the Stonebridge property (also known as Harrison House and 136 Green Bay Road) have negotiated a settlement that will, among other things, rezone the property to its underlying E-1 zoning. The Village Board will consider approval of the settlement agreement at its next meeting on Monday, November 22 at 7 p.m. Click here for more details.
VETERAN'S DAY will be observed tomorrow (Thursday) at 9 a.m. on the Village Green. The Chamber of Commerce will host a Veterans Day Luncheon Friday at 11:30 a.m. in Lake Forest.
HALFWAY MARK. This phase of work on the Village's Downtown Streetscape Improvement project is halfway to completion and has moved to the south side of Scranton Avenue. Remember to support your local businesses. Businesses remain open during construction and 100 free parking spaces are available one block west. The Chamber of Commerce will be announcing "Hard Hat Specials" next week for downtown businesses - stay tuned.
COVID-19 VACCINES were authorized last week for 5-11 year olds. Students can be vaccinated through a Lake Bluff School District 65 clinic, pediatrician offices, and local pharmacies like Walgreens and Jewel-Osco. Many people are now eligible for booster doses of the vaccine which can also be scheduled at local pharmacies.
Board and Committee Actions
Recent Committee-of-the-Whole Meeting (November 8, 5:45 p.m.). The COW:
- Received a presentation regarding a recent analysis of Village street conditions.
- Decided to take no further action to authorize golf carts on local roads.
Recent Village Board Meeting (November 8, 7 p.m.). The Village Board approved:
- An informational report regarding the PCZBA's draft accessory dwelling unit regulations.
- The purchase of rock salt for the 2021-2022 snow season.
- A collective bargaining agreement with the Village's police sergeants.
- A contract for invasive species removal on the Village property north of Illinois Route 176. (This work is funded in part by a grant awarded by Openlands and Commonwealth Edison.)
- The purchase of a vacant lot in the West Terrace to form part of the Skokie River preserve.
- An estimate of the amount of the 2021 property tax levy.
- A policy on Village fee waivers for governments and non-profits.
Recent Historic Preservation Commission Meeting (November 10, 7 p.m.). The HPC made various recommendations concerning historic preservation to the Village Board, including administrative updates to the Village's historic preservation regulations as well as possible incentives for landmark properties.
Upcoming Plan Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting (November 17, 7 p.m.). The PCZBA will hold public hearings to consider recommending:
- Approval of a final plan and a special use permit for a poolhouse at 425-429 Shore Acres Drive.
- Regulations that will authorize the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in the Village as a special use.
