HELP WANTED. Are you a Lake Bluff local with free time on your weekdays? Many of our local restaurants may need to consider reducing their hours or services due to labor shortages. During the month of August, we will advertise openings at Bluffington's, Lake Bluff Brewing Company, and other hometown favorites to help keep our small businesses open. Click here for more information.
TREE TRUTH. It may have rained this morning, but our region is still in a drought. Landscape trees depend on homeowners for water during dry weather. Soak beneath the entire tree canopy up to a few feet beyond the dripline (outer canopy edge), but don't water directly around the trunk. Water the soil for an extended period of time - the goal is to wet the top six to nine inches of soil. Do this overnight; remember, irrigation restrictions apply between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. in the Village during this time of year.
JUST A DRILL. There will be a nationwide emergency notification test at 1:20 p.m. this Thursday, August 11. The test will activate emergency alerts on radio, television, and cell phones to ensure these systems will work in the event of an emergency or disaster.
THE BLUFFINIA CONCERT SERIES continues this Sunday at 6 p.m. on the Village Green. The Brewery's next block party is scheduled for the evening of Saturday, August 14 starting at 5 p.m.
COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are increasing in Illinois and throughout the country due to the introduction of the more contagious Delta variant. Remember:
-
Everyone should wear masks in indoor public places in areas with substantial or high transmission, which now includes Lake and Cook counties. At this time, there are no state or local emergency orders that require the use of face masks while in public.
-
Fully vaccinated people exposed to COVID-19 should be tested: Seek a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after exposure. Wear a mask indoors in public until you receive a negative result. If you are not tested, wear a mask indoors until 14 days after exposure.
- If you are feeling ill, you should isolate at home and seek testing for COVID-19.
Vaccinations are the best way to keep our families, schools, and businesses safe from COVID-19. Over 160 million Americans have been safely vaccinated. You can obtain vaccinations free locally through Lake County, Walgreens, and Jewel-Osco. Appointments are typically available on the same day.
