COVID-19 Updates
COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths are increasing in Illinois and throughout the country due to the introduction of the more contagious Delta variant. Earlier this week, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and the Illinois Department of Public Health updated their guidance for fully vaccinated people:
-
Fully vaccinated people should wear masks in high transmission areas: In areas with more than 50 cases per 100,000 residents per week, everyone should wear a mask over their nose and mouth while in public. As of today, Cook, McHenry, DuPage, and Will counties fall into this category. Kane and Lake counties do not, but may in the near future.
-
Fully vaccinated people exposed to COVID-19 should be tested: Seek a COVID-19 test 3-5 days after exposure. Wear a mask indoors in public until you receive a negative result. If you are not tested, wear a mask indoors until 14 days after exposure.
-
What stays the same: People who are not fully vaccinated should always wear masks in indoor public places. If you are feeling ill, you should isolate at home and seek testing for COVID-19.
At this time, there are no state or local emergency orders that require the use of face masks while in public.
Vaccination Updates
Vaccinations are the best way to keep our families, schools, and businesses safe from COVID-19. Over 99% of COVID-19 deaths in Illinois are now unvaccinated people. Over 160 million Americans have been safely vaccinated. You may have heard about "breakthrough infections" - these happen in only a small proportion of people who are fully vaccinated, even with the Delta variant, and these infections tend to be mild.
The Village will host a mobile vaccination site at the Lake Bluff Farmers Market this Friday, August 6, 7 a.m. to noon. The Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be offered to all comers. No appointment is necessary. The vaccine is always free, but bring your insurance card if you have one.
You can also obtain vaccinations free locally through Lake County, Walgreens, and Jewel-Osco. Appointments are typically available on the same day.
Village and Community Updates
REOPENINGS, PT. 1. The Robert McClory Bike Path Bridge reopened today with a temporary safety railing. A permanent railing will be installed in August.
REOPENINGS, PT. 2. Deerpath Road will reopen at the Route 41 viaduct on Wednesday, August 4 at the conclusion of Lake Forest's Deerpath/Route 41 Viaduct Pump Station Project.
TREE TRUTH. Don't mound your mulch! Less mulch is often better for trees. "Volcano" shaped mulch mounds make more vulnerable trees. Mulch should be in a flat layer, no more than three inches deep, extending laterally between the trunk and the dripline (outer canopy edge). Leave three to six inches of space around the base of the trunk.
THE BLUFFINIA CONCERT SERIES continues Sundays at 6 p.m. on the Village Green.
