What are the Village's Zoning Requirements?

What are the Village's Licensing Requirements? 

Business Occupancy Certificate - Different from a "Building Occupancy" relating to the renovation/construction of a building, this certificate is required for all non food/beverage business operations that occupy space within the Village.

Business License - All food/beverage, food delivery service or scanvenger businesses must obtain a Business License.  Business licenses expire April 30th of each year and must be renewed on an annual basis.

Liquor License - All businesses and/or individuals wishing to sell or offer for sale in the Village any alcoholic liquor must have a license.  Applications are available by calling Brandon Stanick, Assistant to the Village Administrator, at 847-283-6889.

Building Permit - A Building Permit is required for all projects resulting in an alteration or improvement to a property.  Additional information is available by contacting Gerald Nellessen, Building Code Supervisor, at 847-283-6885.

Sign Permit - All permanent signs require a Sign Permit.  Permanent signs are not permitted unless approved by the Archtiectural Board of Review.  Additional information is available by contacting Gerald Nellessen, Building Code Supervisor, at 847-283-6885.

Site Plan Review - Any exterior alteration to an existing commercial/industrial building or the new construction of a commerical/industrial building  is required to undergo a Site Plan Review by the Architectural Board of Review.  Tenants are encouraged to discuss desired alterations with their landlord prior to submitting a formal application to the Village.  Additional information is available by contacting Gerald Nellessen, Building Code Supervisor, at 847-283-6885.

What Types of Taxes are Applicable in Lake Bluff?

The Village levies several different types of taxes that may affect your business.  Some of which include the:

Prepared Food & Beverage Tax;
Home Rule Municipal Retailer's Occupation Tax;
Home Rule Municipal Service Tax;
Home Rule Municipal Use Tax;
Utility Tax;
Demolition Tax;
Automobile Rental Tax; and
